Today, April 28, marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an important occasion commemorated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2003 to promote awareness on the critical importance of cultivating a strong occupational safety and health culture across all industries. In the telecommunications sector, where operations involve high-risk environments, safety is not just a protocol: it is a core responsibility.
As Myanmar’s digital landscape continues to evolve, ATOM stands at the forefront of enabling connectivity for millions. With a people-first approach, ATOM understands that behind every connection, every signal, and every tower stands a dedicated individual whose well-being must always come first. Reaffirming ATOM’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of the employees, partners, and suppliers at every level of operation, ATOM honours this day by rallying everyone involved to equip with healthy practices to form a safer tomorrow.
At ATOM, every employee – whether in the field or in the office – has a role in fostering a safety culture. Field technicians, who frequently work at elevated heights and manage heavy equipment during installation and maintenance tasks, are exposed to higher risk levels. As part of ongoing risk management and safety management efforts, ATOM conducts regular site inspections and on-the-ground interviews to ensure compliance with PPE requirements and safety procedures. ATOM also provides health and safety trainings, incident reporting processes, and promotes continuous improvement. These proactive practices enable the detection of potential hazards early, take corrective actions, and reinforce a strong, safety-first culture across the organisation.
Following the recent earthquake, ATOM’s HSSE, Facility, and Administration teams swiftly organised safety awareness sessions to ensure staff are well-prepared for future emergencies. The sessions covered essential earthquake response protocols, including safe actions during tremors, the use of emergency kits, and evacuation procedures. These efforts reflect ATOM’s ongoing commitment to a safety-first culture and equipping employees with the knowledge to respond effectively in crises.
This year, the theme of the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 highlights the role of AI and digitalisation in the workplace. While these advancements are streamlining operations and driving efficiency, they also present new challenges – privacy concerns, tech errors, and digital literacy gaps – to the workforce.
On this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we are reminded that safety is not just a priority – it is a shared value and daily commitment. As technologies evolve and the workplace transforms, ATOM stands united in its mission to protect the people behind the progress to build Myanmar’s digital future.
By rallying our employees, partners, and suppliers under a unified culture of safety, we are not only meeting today’s standards – we are setting tomorrows. ATOM continues to lead the way in shaping a future where digital advancement and human safety go hand in hand. This day is more than a commemoration because a safer tomorrow starts with the choices we make today.
