Yangon, Myanmar, 13 October 2023 – ATOM has announced a donation of MMK 60 million (60,000,000 Kyats) to assist flood victims in Bago Region. The donation is being made to provide essential relief items, including food supplies, water purification tablets, and electrolytes for the benefit of approximately 2,000 households in the affected areas.

Over the weekend of 7 and 8 October 2023, the Bago Region in southern Myanmar faced severe flooding due to torrential downpours. On Sunday, 8 October, the Bago River exceeded critical water levels which necessitated the evacuation of thousands to flood relief camps. Dedicated ATOM employees from Yangon and Bago regions are involved in delivering the aid items to Bago Region to ensure they reach those in need swiftly and effectively.

ATOM is also committed to supporting its customers who have been affected by the natural disaster. Over the five-day period of 11 to 15 October 2023, ATOM customers in Bago Region and Hlegu Township of Yangon Region, where flooding has been severe, will receive 30 minutes of ATOM-to-ATOM calls and 250MB of mobile data for free daily. ATOM encourages everyone in the flood-affected areas to stay close to their loved ones and move to higher ground in times of flooding, and to heed the information and instructions provided by relevant rescue organisations.

"We are deeply saddened by the devastating floods that have affected Bago Region and its people. Our thoughts are with those who have been displaced from their homes. We hope that our donation will help to provide some relief and support to the affected communities during this difficult time. We will continue to assess the situation and consider extending additional humanitarian assistance as needed," said U Win Paing Kyaw, Deputy CEO of ATOM.

The relief effort by ATOM aligns with its corporate responsibility pillar of Humanitarian Care & Assistance. Under this pillar, ATOM is committed to providing support and contributing to relief efforts during times of crisis, including public health emergencies or other unforeseen events.

In August 2023, ATOM contributed a donation of MMK 53.8 million to provide essential relief items to the flood-affected victims in Kayin and Mon states. That donation also focused on providing essential food items, water purification tablets, and electrolytes, to directly benefit approximately 2,000 households in the affected areas.

For the period of June 2022 to June 2023, ATOM allocated MMK 1.7 billion towards community support activities, aligned with its corporate responsibility pillars of Digitalisation of Education & Health, Advancing Life & Education, and Humanitarian Care & Assistance.
