ATOM’s Second Phase of School Development Programme as Part of ‘Advancing Life and Education’ Efforts

  • ATOM committed MMK 504 million to improve the infrastructure and facilities of five monastic and religious schools for the benefit of more than 1,200 students
  • The donations went towards the construction of dormitories and a wall compound, as well as the provision of equipment such as an electrical transformer and a braille printer
  • The school development programme is supported by ATOM’s allocation of MMK 1 billion till end-2023 to create better educational environments

Yangon, Myanmar, 28 December 2022 – ATOM has commenced the second phase of its school development programme to improve the infrastructure and facilities of five monastic and religious schools for the benefit of more than 1,200 students. A contribution of MMK 504 million was allocated for the second phase of the programme, which is part of ATOM’s ‘Advancing Life and Education’ mandate.

The following activities are being carried out from December 2022 till 2023 by ATOM and its on-ground partners as part of the second phase of the school development programme:

  • Kawpalan School in Kawkareik District, Kayin State: Construction of a girls’ dormitory valued at MMK 180 million.

  • Dhamma Thukha School in Gwa, Rakhine State: Construction of a girls’ dormitory valued at MMK 100 million.

  • Madrasah Arabia Anwarul-Uloom Boys and Girls Boarding School in Oak Kan, Yangon Region: Construction of a 1,195 feet wall compound valued at MMK 100 million.

  • Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind (MCFB) in Mayangone Township, Yangon Region: Provision of an embossed printer and printing paper to produce braille materials valued at MMK 56.3 million.

  • Mangal Sevashram in Thanlyin, Yangon Region: Provision of a 160 kVA electrical transformer valued at MMK 70.8 million.

Said U Win Paing Kyaw, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ATOM, “Supporting educational institutions and enabling students to grow academically in better environments is something ATOM is prioritising, as part of our aim to advance life and education for better social and economic outcomes. Our contributions to five schools for the second phase of our school development programme were determined based on the needs of each school and their students, due diligence checks and impact assessments by our team, as well as considerations for religious and social inclusion.”

“We have contributed close to MMK 700 million towards our school development programme in 2022 and will extend more support in the coming year so that students can receive education in improved learning environments and be encouraged to pursue academic success," added U Win Paing Kyaw.

In August 2022, ATOM announced the allocation of MMK 1 billion for donations towards creating better educational and living environments in monastic and orphan schools which will positively impact approximately 5,000 children and youths.

The first phase of the school development programme saw ATOM contribute funds towards the construction of a ceremony hall for school activities at the YGW Monastic Educational School in Thanet Chaung Village, Taikkyi Township, Yangon Region, and the construction of a school building at the Dhammikarama Monastic School in Bagan Taung Village, Thanlyin, Yangon Region.
