According to a Workplace Burnout Survey conducted by Deloitte in January 2023, 77% of respondents said they experienced burnout at their current job. While it is common to experience job burnout at some point in your career, I’d like to share practical tips on how to manage burnout effectively and re-establish a healthier work-life balance.

How do you know if you’re experiencing a job burnout?
Here are some questions you can ask yourself if you suspect that you may be experiencing job burnout:
1) Do you dread going to work each day?
2) Do you feel unmotivated or exhausted?
3) Are you cynical or negative about your work?
4) Have you noticed a decline in your productivity?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, it is possible that you are experiencing burnout. It is important to take steps to address burnout, since it can also lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, or changes in appetite.
How can you address a job burnout?
Burnout is not the same as stress. You can relieve stress by temporarily stepping away from work such as taking a vacation, but a job burnout may require you to make some adjustments to your mindset and routine. By following these tips, you can start to feel better and get back to enjoying your work.
Establish healthy boundaries at work: Know when to say "no" and switch off from work outside of work hours.
Take short breaks throughout the day: Get up and move around, or step outside for some fresh air.
Make time for yourself to relax and recharge: Enjoy your hobby, do yoga, or spend time with loved ones to de-stress.
Talk about how you're feeling: Seek support from your manager, friends, family, or a therapist; and ask for help when you need it.
At ATOM, we believe that a positive work environment is essential for employee happiness and productivity. We strive to create a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and connected.
We know that work can be stressful, so we plan regular activities, such as our recently held ATOM Office Yoga, and Friday Bazaar to allow employees to relax and have fun. We also celebrate successes which can help to boost morale and reduce stress.
In closing, I’d like to encourage all working professionals out there with this quote – “A successful career is a marathon, not a sprint.”
This quote reminds us that it is important to always pace yourself and prioritise your well-being, so that you have the stamina to go the distance and achieve your goals.
